Leuchars Air Base Personnel Transition Evaluation Report

Further to the Ministry of Defence’s decision to close the Leuchars RAF Base which finally ceased to be an RAF Station on 31 March 2015 and transfer control of the site to the Army, the change of personnel has been felt by the local community.

To help understand the impact felt by local businesses, the Business Gateway Fife, on behalf of Fife Economic Development, comissioned an evaluation of the impact that the transition has had.

The University of St Andrews is currently working with the Santander Universities SME Internship Programme to create internships and work placements within SMEs for promising students. These programs allow deserving students to gain work experience and learn valuable skills, while giving smaller businesses the chance to work with recent graduates and current students, offsetting their costs in the meantime.

Fife Training Provider Becomes Institute of Export’s First Accredited Training Centre in Scotland

A Fife training provider has become the first in Scotland to offer accredited training from the Institute of Export (IOE) - the only professional body in the UK offering recognised, formal qualifications in International Trade.

The prestigious accreditation enables St Andrews Management Centre (STAMC) to deliver the IOE’s suite of internationally recognised export qualifications - with particular emphasis on its flagship Certificate in International Trade (CIT).

COOPER SOFTWARE REPORTS 22% INCREASE IN YEAR END REVENUE

Fife-based specialist technology consultancy, Cooper Software, has reported a 22% increase in revenue for year ending 31 March 2016, rising to c£4m.  The increase has been driven by key business wins in the second half of the year which has seen the company undertake projects for clients across multiple sectors including; manufacturing and engineering, high tech, oil and gas and CPG, both in the UK and in Europe.

Cyber Resilience Voucher Scheme - Launching 29 April 2016

The Cyber Resilience Voucher Scheme aims to support companies to improve their knowledge, understanding and strategy towards handling cyber security and protecting valuable information for the company.  An award of up to £1,500 is available to businesses to help secure the services of a cyber security expert to help them check their current systems and develop them to meet the Cyber Essentials UK Government Standard.

BRAG’s Greenpower Formula 24 Project has been running at BRAG for the last 2 years and what started out as a small project run in the evenings has now escalated to us having three Racing Teams.  We have two F24 Teams (11-16yrs) and 1 F24+ Team (16-25yrs), we have 16 young people involved with the project.  The project introduces young people to aspects of Engineering, Science, Technology and Mechanics to name a few through the designing, building and racing of a full size single seater battery powered racing car.  We have raced across the UK and against teams from Northern Ir
