Making Tax Digital VAT

Thursday 5 April 2018

As part of the governments transformation of the tax system, the "Making Tax Digital" programme aims to make tax administration for taxpayers simpler by switching to digital record keeping and quarterly updating by businesses.

The VAT element of these reforms has now become law and these new regulations will come into effect as of the 1st April 2019.

The change will require VAT registered businesses with a turnover above the VAT threshold (currently £85,000), to register their VAT obligations and render their returns using a compaible returns software system.

Some exemptions apply.
