Trends Point to Wellness Tourism

Tuesday 2 April 2019

Wellness tourism is emerging as more and more consumers value ‘healthy’ experiences. Tourism businesses in Fife are ideally placed to support this trend, by embracing the region’s natural assets such as its stunning landscapes, its food and drink offering and culture.

On average, Fife attracts over eight million visits annually, with its stunning landscape the most cited reason for visiting the region. It was also voted top Outdoor Destination for eight consecutive years.

The Kingdom’s stunning outdoor attractions include the Fife Coastal Path, Gateside’s Bunnet Stane and Falkland Estate, its beautiful parks including Lochore Meadows, which offers water-based activities, and there’s also St Andrews’ world-famous golf course.

There are so many reasons to visit Fife, including the recently launched Fife Pilgrim Way, a 64-mile walking route, similar to the Fife Coastal Path. It starts at Culross and North Queensferry taking in spectacular views of the Coast, Forth and Tay Estuaries and the Lomond Hills, and passes medieval landmarks, industrial landscapes and historic picturesque villages on its way to St Andrews.

Coming soon is a touring route stretching 191 miles throughout the beautiful Kingdom, taking in some of the quaintest towns and villages. Visitors will have the opportunity to sample award-winning ice cream parlours, Michelin-starred dining restaurants, cafes, as well as great farm shops, where visitors can enjoy Scottish cuisine while enjoying some pretty amazing scenery too.

Fife Tourism Partnership plays a key role in engaging businesses across Fife to support the tourism industry. Ann Camus of Fife Tourism Partnership said: “Recent trends highlight the desire of consumers in terms of wanting more healthy, relaxing experiences. We’ve so much to offer here in Fife, including a new walking trail and a soon to launch touring route, that each showcase the stunning scenery, let visitors sample the region’s fabulous food and drink offerings, and see a number of outstanding attractions.

“Fife has something to offer everyone.”
