Glenrothes Coffee Roaster Modern Standard now available in Tesco stores across the UK

Modern Standard, a speciality coffee roastery, has secured a trial selling their Momentum Espresso, Colombia Aromas del Sur, Ethiopia Konga Cooperative, Guatemala Finca San Antonio and Brazil Santa Lucia in Tesco stores across the UK for the first time. The speciality coffee businesses are being stocked in 64 stores between now and June. Modern Standard was founded by Lynsey Harley in 2015 and is one of the few female-founded and run coffee businesses in the UK. Returning to Lynsey’s hometown of Glenrothes in Fife, the roastery moved to their premises in 2019 and the business also opened their first cafe in Edinburgh in December 2020. Lynsey said, ‘I’m delighted to have been recognised by Tesco and to have our award-winning coffee on the shelves for this trial. Looking forward I hope this will lead to a permanent listing of our product range in their supermarkets. I founded Modern Standard to make great coffee for everyone and have been lucky enough to travel the world discovering and buying great coffee. I am so proud this has been recognised by Tesco and will be able to see our coffee on the shelves across the UK!” From farm to cup, Lynsey and the team ensure their coffees and hot chocolate are ethical and sustainable, including sourcing beans direct from award winning producers located in Central and South America and Africa which Lynsey visits regularly for meetings with the growers and their families. All coffee bags are recyclable and Modern Standard have joined 1% for the planet, pledging a minimum 1% donation of annual sales to environmental non-profit organisations. The roastery also donates the nutrient rich coffee chaff, a natural biproduct of production to social enterprise Trees for Cities for using as compost.
