Forth & Tay Offshore

Tuesday 2 July 2019

In March 2019, an Offshore Wind “sector deal” was announced between UK Government and Industry setting out the goal of generating 1/3 of Britain’s electricity from Offshore Wind by 2030.  The Deal also sets out a major commitment from Industry to grow the UK supply chain in particular in the Coastal Communities around the main proposed offshore wind developments.   The Forth & Tay Offshore Cluster was set up in 2018, as part of a network of clusters established in key areas of the UK, to maximise the opportunities & benefits to local areas from the offshore renewables sector.   The cluster is a partnership made up of local authorities from Angus to Scottish Borders Council, working together with Scottish Enterprise and the major offshore wind developers SSE, EDF Energy and Red Rock Power. The Forth & Tay Cluster partners are now seeking to understand the areas capability to support the major developments off the area's coastline.  We need your help to identify the current and potential offshore wind supply chain companies and their capabilities. Please complete this initial survey, by identifying what services you currently supply to the offshore wind sectors, services you currently offer in other sectors that you believe could be transferred into offshore wind now, services which could be adapted for the offshore wind sector with appropriate support and services which you aspire to offer the sector in the future. https://www.forthandtayoffshore.co.uk/suppliers/ This survey will be followed up by further work, undertaken by Scottish Enterprise, to qualify in more depth your company’s full capabilities and allow the Forth & Tay Offshore Cluster to pull together a searchable database to be used by the developers and their key contractors. We would like to see Fife maximise on every opportunity brought by this new emerging sector, provide conditions for local incubation of innovation, drive competitiveness, increase economies of scale and productivity. If you wish to get in touch with economic development to discuss wider business support matters in this regard, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
