The Cellardyke Trust has been awarded £84,856 by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Development Funding, for its special project The Manx Beauty – Cellardyke and Beyond.

This will enable the Trust to develop plans for its community project which is designed it to enthuse young people in heritage skills and provide training for an apprentice, school pupils and a range of individuals through the rebuilding of the 1937 herring fishing vessel, the Manx Beauty. The wider project includes environmental work and exciting intergenerational heritage outreach.

Chair of the Cellardyke Trust, Richard Wemyss explained, “National Heritage Lottery Development Phases require us to develop and prepare applications for a full National Lottery grant, in our case in this will be early 2026.  We have already submitted full budgets, business plans, job descriptions, risk registers, partnership agreements.  In this Phase we will have to get our Trust ‘project ready’, stress test all documents, set up protocols for the employees of the Project Management team and strengthen our governance structure. We are looking for skilled business minded individuals to join our Trust or project management team to help navigate this 22-month process and ensure that when we apply for the full Heritage Lottery grant, we are absolutely ‘fit for purpose’ to run our exciting community project.”

As a client of Business Gateway Fife, Richard has been working with business adviser, Alasdair Busby.   Alasdair commented, “I have been supporting the highly experienced Richard Wemyss, advising him on strategy, fundraising, including crowdfunding and PR. His greatest wish is for the next generation to have the opportunity to learn skills that would otherwise be lost and I am delighted that he has secured this development phase funding from the National Heritage Lottery Fund.”
