Dunimarle Castle is a hidden gem, located high above the historic village of Culross in Fife. Built in the 11th century, the original medieval castle is steeped in history and is alleged to be a dwelling of the Macduff’s. In 1840, a new castle was constructed alongside the remains of the original building.
It has been refurbished and upgraded by the current owners in 2010. Inside the estate’s lush gardens, nestles St Serf’s Chapel, and it’s now used for weddings and a backdrop to filming and photographic opportunities. There are also guided tours of the castle, chapel and beautiful gardens with seasonal events like easter egg hunts being held.
One of the major developments in the estate, is the creation of the Orangery café, a stunning large event space, which has just received final approval from Fife Council Planning and recruitment is underway for a full-time café manager. George Fleming is the Estate Manager for Dunimarle and has worked with Business Gateway Fife during the upgrades. He commented:
“The excellent support and advice given to me by Business Gateway Fife has enabled us to progress with the developments of the estate to create a historic visitor attraction that enhances the offering of Culross village as well as bringing the castle and gardens back to life.”
Fraser McKee, senior business adviser at Business Gateway Fife said: “We were able to give Dunimarle Estate access to financial forecasting, accounting and HR support, assistance in the Planning application and workshops on digital media and website development. The castle and gardens are significant assets to the historic Culross area and its tourism so it’s important that they are given the opportunity to flourish to put them on the map as another excellent visitor attraction.”
