Courses to develop Heritage Building Skills

The Scottish Lime Trust run a range of courses throughout the year. Focused on Heritage building skills such as traditional Lime mortars, drystone walling and decorative plasterwork. Based Charlestown Workshop at Limekilns, the courses are designed for professional contractors and tis with good tool skills. The courses do cover theory but the focus is on practical training.  Courses are added at regular intervals but a sample of them is:- MAKING AND USING TRADITIONAL MORTARS C1-CONTRACTOR LEVEL 1A popular two day introductory course aimed at contractors and those with trowel skills, this practical workshop will provide attendees with a strong understanding of lime technology, how to approach re-pointing work in traditional buildings and the correct materials to use. 4th & 5th November 2019.  LIME POINTINGLearn the skills to help you carry out your own mortar pointing repairs.This popular one day workshop is aimed at those who would like to undertake repointing works as part of a renovation project or simply as general maintenance to traditional masonry structures. A practical 'hands on' training day, attendees will learn to undertake repointing works to with confidence. This course will give a sound understanding of traditional building technology, repair techniques and the materials to use when carrying out repointing. Attendees are encouraged to bring along images of their projects to discuss with the SLCT tutor on the day. A number of courses are being held in October, November, Jan 2020 and March 2020  CHRISTMAS SWAG MAKING WORKSHOPEver wondered how the professionals make those stunning Christmas door swags? Let us show you how it's done.Get in the Christmas spirit by making your very own swag which will look great on your door this Christmas! We welcome Pamela Galloway floral designer here to deliver this craft workshop. The Christmas lights will be on and our cosy fire will be roaring so come and enjoy a festive night here at the Scottish Lime Centre Trust. Perfect for a girls night to de-stress and get creative, so bring a friend to enjoy the experience with! Home baking and mulled wine will be provided as well as all materials and refreshments.
