Glenrothes based timber machining company, Haldane UK, was looking at attending an exhibition in which they could enter the lucrative self-build market with their staircase manufacturing service.

The company is most commonly known for manufacturing timber handrails so when they launched their full staircase manufacture and installation service, they knew they needed to do something on a larger scale to effectively reposition the company.

They identified the Grand Designs exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham as the perfect platform to launch the new service. However the total cost of exhibiting was proving too expensive when they took into consideration all expenses including, travel, accommodation and the actual stand.

However thanks to a grant of £2,000 from Business Gateway Fife, the company was able to make a real impact at the Grand Designs exhibition and successfully launch their new service.

Haldane UK’s Managing Director, Forrester Adam explained: "We had attended exhibitions in the past but as most of our market is in England, the cost can be expensive - especially in the current market conditions - and therefore we simply stopped.

"The grant from Business Gateway Fife was instrumental in our decision to attend Grand Designs. We simply couldn't have done it without their support."

Haldane was able to make a dramatic impact at the event with hundreds of people visiting their stand and a fantastic level of enquiries for their bespoke timber staircases.
