St Andrews business people invited to hear University demystified!

Local business people are being invited to join members and guests of St Andrews Business Club on November 2 to hear one of the University of St Andrews Vice-Principals reveal its inner workings.

In the second evening talk of the club’s new term, Professor Verity Brown, the university’s Vice-Principal (Enterprise & Engagement), will describe how the University of St Andrews is organised, managed and run in her presentation "How does a modern Ancient work?”

While we all have some familiarity with the 600-year-old institution that permeates all aspects of life and business in St Andrews, the inner-workings of this multi-million-pound turnover, internationally-trading and globally-acclaimed business remain something of a mystery to most of us.

Professor Brown will try to demystify this, providing information about aspects of the workings of the university which are less well-known and hopes to challenge some misperceptions about one of Fife’s largest employers.

Hers will be the second evening talk of the term, to be held at the New Golf Club from 5.30pm, and local business people are invited to join club members and their guests for it as well as networking, sandwiches and hot and cold drinks. Anyone wishing to do so is asked to email standrewsbusinessclub@gmail.com with the subject line “Nov 2 Meeting Non-Member Booking” by October 28 to book a free place.

The club’s latest monthly breakfast meeting, on Wednesday, heard Allan Bowie, President of NFU Scotland, speak on the impact of Brexit on the rural economy and other issues affecting local farmers.

Breakfast meetings, which are open to members and their guests only, now start at 7.30am, with an hour of networking over continental breakfast before the speaker begins. Non-members wanting to attend can email the club on standrewsbusinessclub@gmail.com about how to join.

Full details of all the club’s talks and how to join are available on its website at http://businessclub.standrews.co.uk/
