Councillor Lesley Laird has visited Growforth Ltd, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of wholesale plants as part of her role as Director of Business Gateway Fife, to understand the key challenges facing small businesses in Fife.

The Dunfermline based company has been a long standing client of Business Gateway Fife and has continued to grow since it was established in 1990 by Managing Director, Stan Green to now employ 13 employees operating from their premises in Hillend.

Councillor Laird was keen to find out first-hand the unique challenges of running a business which is enjoying growth but facing pressures from not only the turbulent economy but also the unpredictability of the weather.

Councillor Laird commented, “It was a real pleasure to meet Stan and his team and listen to the passion they have for their business and their clients. Their feedback on the excellent work Business Gateway Fife has been doing to support the ongoing development of the business was fantastic, however I was keen to find out what else Business Gateway Fife and Fife Council can do to help companies such as Growforth.”

Growforth recently accessed £5000 of grant funding from Fife Council’s Fife Investment Fund to assist with the development of a new online ordering and electronic communications system.

Councillor Laird continued, “Whilst websites have become a core element of any business, Growforth have demonstrated online technology can dramatically improve the customer service in the B2B market, but also help improve profitability and stock monitoring.”

Councillor Laird was also joined by Pamela Stevenson of Fife Council, David Howie; Business Adviser from Business Gateway Fife and Douglas McLoughlan, Business Gateway Fife’s Operations Director.
